2010 Statement of Priorities

August 22, 2010

The Board of Trustees of The Hubbell – Waterman Foundation has determined that the severity of the economic downturn in the Quad Cities continues to hinder economic growth and is a continuing burden on unemployed workers.  Retraining of longer term unemployed workers is a growing problem for workers and employers.  In 2009 the Foundation entered into a contract with the United Way of the Quad Cities Area to assist the newly unemployed with grants to provide emergency services to those in need of food and shelter.  The Foundation intends to continue funding under that contract for the balance of 2010 and the first half of 2011, and to increase the Foundation’s grant to United Way and its service providers to provide assistance to the newly unemployed for food, payment of utilities, and shelter. In addition, the Foundation will work with United Way to develop a new grant to provide retraining programs for the longer term unemployed.
